Rugby Success At First Try
Sporty youngsters were all smiles after enjoying success at their first ever tag rugby tournament.
The Year 7 and 8 girls – who had never played the sport before – won two out of the three games they played, to finish a very respectable third out of eight teams in the contest.
Tag rugby is a minimal contact game in which each player has two velcro tags attached to their shorts. It is played like rugby league, with players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball. Rather than tackling, opposing players attempt to stop them by pulling off one of the tags. The attacking team has six plays, or tags, to score a try.
Miss Rigsby, who took the girls to the competition, said: “It was the first time they had played tag rugby and they did brilliant – hopefully they will enjoy even more success in the future.”
