Year 9 Pupils Inspired by Visit from Naval Nurse Jake Dearlove

We were delighted to welcome Petty Officer Jake Dearlove, a highly skilled Naval Nurse in Critical Care, to speak with our Year 9 pupils about the exciting opportunities in nursing and the military.

During his engaging talk, Jake shared valuable insights into:

Career Pathways in Nursing and the Armed Forces – highlighting the diverse roles available and the unique experiences that come with serving in the Royal Navy.

Labour Market Information – explaining the growing demand for healthcare professionals and the benefits of pursuing a career in this vital sector.

How to Apply for Apprenticeships – offering practical advice on entry routes, qualifications, and the importance of resilience and commitment.

The Role of Science in Nursing – demonstrating how biology, chemistry, and anatomy underpin critical care and decision-making in high-pressure environments.

His Personal Journey – inspiring students with his own route into nursing, from initial training to becoming a Petty Officer in critical care.

Jake’s visit gave our pupils a real-world perspective on how academic subjects link to meaningful careers and opened their eyes to opportunities they may not have considered before.

A huge thank you to Jake Dearlove for taking the time to share his experience and expertise. His passion for nursing and service to the country left a lasting impression on our students.
