Bikeability

As part of our continued commitment to safety, and life skills among students, Year 7 pupils participated in the Bikeability Cycle Training Programme, successfully completing Level 1 and Level 2 during the spring term.

Bikeability is the UK’s national cycle training scheme designed to give students the confidence and practical skills needed to cycle safely.

  • Level 1 focuses on core bike-handling skills in a controlled environment such as the school playground.
  • Level 2 prepares students for real-world cycling, teaching them to navigate quiet local roads and understand road positioning, junctions, and traffic awareness.

We are pleased to report that all participating Year 7 students successfully completed either Level 1, Level 2 or both. In doing so, they demonstrated:

  • Improved confidence and awareness when cycling
  • Understanding of road safety rules and signalling
  • Respect for other road users
  • Practical skills enabling them to travel more independently

Instructors noted excellent engagement and positive attitudes throughout the sessions, with many students showing significant improvement in their cycling ability and road awareness over the course of the programme.
