Moseley Park Academy Welcomes Bank of England Speaker

Moseley Park Academy was delighted to welcome Michael Marsh from the Bank of England, who recently visited the school to speak with pupils about the wide range of careers available within one of the UK’s most important financial institutions.

During the visit, Michael delivered an engaging and informative talk that introduced students to the diverse roles within the Bank of England, highlighting that careers extend far beyond traditional finance. Pupils learned about opportunities in areas such as economics, data and technology, cybersecurity, communications, policy, and operational support, helping to broaden their understanding of what working at the Bank can involve.

Michael also shared insight into the history of the Bank of England, explaining its role in maintaining financial stability, safeguarding the value of money, and supporting the UK economy. This context helped pupils to understand how the Bank’s work impacts everyday life and why its role continues to evolve in response to modern challenges.

A key focus of the session was the routes into a career at the Bank of England. Michael explained the different entry pathways available to young people, including apprenticeships, internships, and graduate programmes, making it clear that there are multiple ways for students from all backgrounds to access high‑quality careers. Pupils were encouraged to focus on developing transferable skills, curiosity, and resilience alongside academic achievement.

The session also explored current and relevant topics, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence and the real‑world challenges of fraud and forgery in today’s digital economy. These examples helped pupils connect classroom learning with real‑world applications and understand how emerging technologies are shaping the future of work within financial institutions.

Michael concluded by sharing his personal journey into the Bank of England, offering honest reflections on his career path and the lessons he has learned along the way. This personal insight was particularly impactful, helping pupils see how ambition, adaptability, and perseverance can lead to exciting opportunities.

Moseley Park Academy would like to extend its sincere thanks to Michael Marsh and the Bank of England for taking the time to inspire and inform our pupils. Visits like these play a vital role in raising aspirations and helping students make informed decisions about their future careers.
