Important Message: Water Safety Awareness
Following the recent and tragic loss of a teenager, West Midlands Fire Service has shared important guidance to help raise awareness around water safety.
As we enjoy the warmer weather, it’s vital that children, young people, and families understand the dangers of open water, including rivers, lakes, canals, and reservoirs. Even on the hottest days, the water can be extremely cold and pose serious risks such as cold water shock, hidden currents, and submerged hazards.
West Midlands Fire Service’s resources highlight the main sources of risk, offer simple safety tips, and provide advice on what to do in an emergency.
We urge all families to take a moment to read the information carefully and to speak with children about how to stay safe near water.
👉 Useful resources and further details are included in the letter sent home.
Let’s work together to keep our children safe this summer. 💙
