A Big Thank You to Transport for West Midlands
This week, Moseley Park Academy was delighted to welcome representatives from Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), who visited to deliver an engaging and insightful session to our Year 7 pupils.
The session opened our students’ eyes to the wide range of exciting opportunities available within the transport, engineering, and construction sectors. TfWM’s team highlighted the importance of these industries in supporting the region’s growth and improving everyday life for communities across the West Midlands.
Exploring Future Careers
During the talk, pupils learned about:
- Careers in transport, engineering, and construction, including both technical and non‑technical roles
- Current labour market gaps and why certain skills are increasingly in demand
- Key skills for the future, such as problem‑solving, teamwork, digital literacy, and adaptability
- Routes into apprenticeships, including real examples of progression pathways
- Starting salaries and long‑term career prospects for upcoming roles within the sector
This information empowered students to consider how their strengths, interests, and classroom learning could lead them toward rewarding and impactful careers.
A Focus on Sustainability
TfWM also addressed how the transport industry is evolving to meet environmental challenges. Pupils discussed:
The region’s commitment to sustainability
How transport plays a critical role in helping society move towards carbon neutrality
Ways young people can contribute to a greener future
These conversations helped students understand how their career choices can intersect with their values and global challenges.
