Golden Girl Isabella Is On Top Of The World
Moseley Park is celebrating having a world champion walking the corridors after a talented Year 8 youngster triumphed in an international karate competition.
Isabella Wilkes was crowned the JKS World Grand Champion during the summer after winning a gold medal in both kata and kumite in the female 12 to 13 years category.
She also narrowly missed out on another gold in the mixed koten kata category, but had to settle for silver after being beaten by a male competitor from the Ukraine by a narrow two flags to three flags margin.
Her victories took place at the JKS International Cup, which she attended as part of JKS England. This is the world championships of the JKS Association and saw more than 1,000 competitors from 30 countries travel to Dublin on August 24 and 25.
The JKS England team also did extremely well in the contest – finishing a close second in the medal table to overall champions Japan.
Miss Jones, assistant headteacher, said: “Not only is Isabella a brilliant competitor, who trains hard and deserves her success, but she is also a valuable member of the school community who always participates in a variety of activities. We are extremely proud of her.”
