Top Performing Year 9 Girls Attend Inspiring Girls in Physics Event at University of Birmingham

A group of top-performing Year 9 girls from Moseley Park had the exciting opportunity to attend a Girls in Physics event at the University of Birmingham, aimed at inspiring the next generation of female scientists and engineers.

The event, organised to encourage more young women to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), brought together enthusiastic students from across the region for a day of exploration, learning, and discovery.

Throughout the day, the girls took part in a range of hands-on practical activities designed to showcase the exciting possibilities within the field of physics. From experiments in electricity and magnetism to exploring the mysteries of the universe, the students were able to apply their classroom knowledge in a university lab environment, building both confidence and curiosity.

One of the highlights of the event was meeting several keynote speakers—female physicists and STEM professionals—who shared their career journeys, challenges, and successes. These inspiring talks gave students a valuable insight into the diverse and impactful roles available to women in science and engineering.
